Sing to the Lord a New Song!
2Let Israel be glad in his Maker; Let the sons of Zion rejoice in their King. 3Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him with timbrel and lyre. 4For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.…

"Holiness is a disposition of the heart that makes us humble and little in the arms of God, aware of our weakness, and confident -- in the most audacious way -- in His Fatherly goodness."
- St. Therese of the Infant Jesus

Adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament

We will read this Sunday's Gospel  together

in preparation for the Third Sunday of Advent~ Gaudete Sunday

Matthew 11: 2-11

Reflection Questions:

1. What struck you most in this passage?
What did you notice that you hadn't noticed before?

2. If God really wanted people to recognize Jesus as the Messiah, couldn't he have made it more obvious?  Many of Jesus' contemporaries didn't believe in him.  Could God have done anthing more to convince them?

3. Today's Christian can see many more signs than John the Baptist's disciples could, especially the endurance and growth of the Catholic Church and the lives of thousands of saints.  Why do Christians still struggle to obey God's will? Why do nonbelievers resist all these signs?

4. How can we be better signs of Christ's truth for those around us?

Spirit and Truth NJ on the Road ~ Friday, November 25th, 2016

Union with God, then, is the spiritual height God calls everyone to achieve – any one, not only religious but any one, who chooses, who wills to seek this pearl of great price, who specializes in the traffic of eternal good, who says 'yes' constantly to God…The imitation of Christ in the lives of saints is always possible and compatible with every state of life. The saints did but one thing – the will of God. But they did it with all their might. We have only to do the same thing; and according to the degree of intensity with which we labor shall our sanctification progress. (Greater Perfection, pp. 264-266)

Reflection Questions:

1. What struck you most in this passage?

2. "He will come again to judge the living and the dea, and His Kingdom will have no end."  What impact do you think this doctrine should have on our daily lives?

4. How can we avoid falling into the frustrating trao of trying to tackle difficulties and challenges of life all by ourselves, forgetting that Christ is alwaus with us, working in our hearts and in others through us?

One day St. Teresa of Avila heard someone say: "If only I had lived at the time of Jesus... If only I had seen Jesus... If only I had talked with Jesus..."
To this she responded: "But do we not have in the Eucharist the living, true and real Jesus present before us? Why look for more?"
"In the presence of Jesus in the Holy Sacrament we ought to be like the Blessed in heaven before the Divine Essence,"
- St. Teresa of Avila

We will read this Sunday's Gospel  together

in preparation for the Twenty Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Luke 16:1-13

Reflection Questions:

1. What struck you most in this passage?
What did you notice that you hadn't noticed before?

2. Why do we tend to be more ingenious and proactive when it comes to wordly pursits than when it comes to spiritual things?

3. What has helped you most in keeping your financial life as Christian as possible? What has hindered you? HOw can we know where to draw the line between responsibility and generosity?

4. We call ourselves Christians, followers of Christ.  If someone were to follow us around for a day, what evidence would there be that this is truly the case?  What evidence might they find that could be the opposite- that we serve some other Lord?
